A Healer Waits

A poem about healing in the face of hurt

There’s someone in my life who’s hurting.

Maybe it’s you. I can offer you my heart, but first you must open your gates, and choose to trust in the face of where it is you hurt.

Or maybe it was me, at a time where you showed up and I had difficulty letting you in.

Outside our rusted gates, a healer waits

An opening is all that it would take.

Opening a little, at first. Trusting a little, then a little more.

Until it’s all.

This is surrender. The gates open, swinging wide, and we are once again free.

This is life.

A Healer Waits

I stand outside your walls

Locked beyond rusted gates

An opening is all that it would take

But I can wait

A courier carrying something sacred

A missing piece made especially for you

A salve that feels complete

To soothe and ease the wound

That split you into two

Separating you from you

I can see where you’re missing peace

I stand outside the space

Looking in

Through metal bars

Barbed wire

And stone

I can see you there

I can see that you’re all alone

Looking out

Through metal bars

Can you see me there?

Can you feel my warmth?

Can you break past the stone?

It’s cold in there

I know

I’m standing here

Offering a way back home

Outside your rusted gates

A healer waits

An opening is all that it would take
